VOLUNTEERS

From the start in 1970 “Lis Hartel” has worked with volunteers and even our current committee members and instructors began their work here as a volunteer.

The volunteer is very important and keeps “Lis Hartel” running as it is today, and although we have around 70 volunteers; we are constantly interested in getting additional ones involved at our riding school. If you are interested in getting more information then please get in contact with us – right way – and/or send us an email at info@lishartel.nl

Why do volunteers do this work?

We asked one of our volunteers to give an answer to this question:

“Every week I come here to the riding school with lots of pleasure as I love the contact between people and the animals. Because I come here on a specific day and time each week to help with the horse riding lessons, you establish a close relationship with the disabled children. It’s very important to have a lot of patience and if you don’t have it before coming then you will learn it through the work here. Sometimes it takes up to half a year or even longer before the disabled rider knows what to do when riding the horse. But when that finally happens, then I am very happy. Every week you meet and see their spontaneous happy, warm and smiling faces and that want you to come back again and again. You give a great deal, but you receive an awful lot back, too.”

Volunteers are still required!

Many of the people living in the surrounding villages know about the existence of “Lis Hartel.”  Since 1989 our riding school has been located on the same ground as the Bartimeus, an Institution for blind and weak sighted persons.

There is a steady increase of interest among disabled people wanting to learn horse riding and “Lis Hartel” is constantly looking for new volunteers to keep up with this demand, as it is our goal to be able to help them all and not to disappoint one single person.

At the moment we are about 70 volunteers coming here for 1 or more hours each week.

Would you like to join us as a volunteer working with horses and disabled people for an hour or more each and every week?

We are – always – looking for women, men, school students who are willing to join us at Lis Hartel” each week for an hour or more as it is extremely important that the riders get their weekly lessons together with our volunteers.

Does it sound good and interesting for you then contact us right away at our riding school.

We have several jobs which require volunteers and we are sure, “Lis Hartel” can fit you right into our school and even if you have no prior horse experience nor riding skills, we
have other jobs available. Careful instructions will be given to any new volunteers.

Are you interested? Give us a call or come around our riding school and we will be more than
happy to give you additional information or you can also contact:
Hans Wiegmann.
